Weekly Red Tide Update 11-26-06

East Region: No event.

Northwest Region
: Water samples collected late last week 10 to 30 miles south of Pensacola Beach (Escambia County) contained no Karenia brevis, the Florida red tide organism. No other samples were collected from northwest Florida.

Southwest Region
: Water samples collected this week detected Karenia brevis, the Florida red tide organism, alongshore between southern Pinellas and southern Collier counties with concentrations in most locations ranging from background to low. Several sampled locations contained no K. brevis, including large portions of Lee and Collier counties, however medium concentrations of K. brevis were found near Blind Pass and the Ringling Causeway in Sarasota County. Fish kills and respiratory irritation remain possible between southern Pinellas County and southern Collier County.
