Skyway Fishing Piers are Hot
By Mike Tyson, Skyway Fishing PiersGrouper -- many big ones -- are being hauled over the rails of both North and South Piers. Most of our anglers are catching them in the deeper waters at the ends of both piers on pinfish, frozen sardines, blue runners and other baits. The Spanish mackerel remain a sure thing, with many hooking them on live baits and Gotcha plugs. There are now more and bigger macks here at the Skyway-- plust more king mackerel showing up every day.
Many have been catching some nice pompano by the pier toll booth using Doc's jigs and live shrimp. There are still tons of bait all over the Skyways structures. But as we get more cold fronts coming through here, they’ll eventually thin out.
Our anglers are also catching some larger snook and cobia as well as numerous snapper. There is still an abundance of mangos. I suspect, however, as things cool down, they will be leaving the Skyway for deeper Gulf waters. But then the sheepshead will show up to take up the slack.
Come visit us soon on the Skyway Fishing Piers.
